WHY NOW?

FIVE BIG REASONS

1.  The population of older people in connecticcut is growing, the number of births has been declining.

2.  1 out of 2 children is enrolled in CT Medicaid program. Which means their families are living with lower income.

3.  The science of development tells us that the most rapid brain growth occurs in the first 3-5 years of a child’s life. Science also tells us that this growth happens within the context of healthy and nurturing relationship between children, their parents and other caregivers.

4.  Current policies and economic circumstances are placing great stress on our families. Making it much harder for mothers, fathers, grandparents, and others to be successful nurtures and maintain healthy connection with their children.

5.  Data over time tells us that we get he best return on investment by supporting the early childhood system -- systems of care and service from to children’s entry to kindergarten.

BUT...

WHO ARE MEMBERS OF THE CT 369 NETWORK?

We are people who work in higher education and K-12 education, non-profit advocacy

and direct service organizations like health care, home visiting and early intervention, state and

local government, and philanthropy. We are parents, grandparents, family friends and citizens who

just want to make life better for families during pregnancy and in the early childhood years.
